Minutes of the Board of Management Meeting

July 10, 2000

The first Board Meeting of the summer was held at the home of Secretary Sandy Podesta. Present were President Brian Burke, Treasurer Jon Morrow, Board Members Tom Hynes, Rita Amaio, Jim O'Brien, Michael Eisele and Kim Ruggiero.

ANNUAL MEETING AND PICNIC: Saturday, July 22 is the date for this day long Association event. (See enclosed agenda and details.) The Annual Board Meeting will once again take place on the beach lawn beginning at 9:00 a.m. The Children's Parade will depart from the corner of Neck Road and Ridgewood Avenue at 5:00 p.m. (note this new, later time) and arrive shortly thereafter at the Beach for games and festivities. Dinner will be served beginning approximately 6:00 p.m. Tom Hynes (245-2487) and Sandy Podesta (245-6038) are actively seeking volunteers to help; please call either one to lend a hand.

BOARD OF MANAGEMENT: At present, one Board Member seat remains vacant and three terms expire. Appointed by the Board pursuant to the by-laws, Mark Kasevich has agreed to fill the vacant seat, which has a term of two years. At the Annual Meeting, the Board will nominate for reelection Kim Ruggiero and Tom Hynes to additional two-year terms on the Board and Jon Morrow as Treasurer.

BEACH AREA MAINTENANCE: Kim Ruggiero reported that there are currently three openings on the boat rack, which will be assigned to the three people on the waiting list. Several Board members brought up the need to clean the area around the shed, rid it of lumber and re-hang the bulletin board; Jim O'Brien agreed to look into these issues. Mike Eisele offered to obtain prices on a swim float in response to requests from several HERCC member families. Finally, Rita Amaio and Jim O'Brien volunteered to purchase a new trash can as closely as possible resembling the old one, which appears to have been stolen.

JETTY MAINTENANCE: Bart Ruggiero, Steve Nikituk, Jim O'Brien continue to explore options for maintenance and repair of the wooden jetty on the Association beach as well as to prepare for replacement/rebuilding when the time comes. Initial research leads the committee to predict that the expense will be sizable and that, when appropriate, the issue of a dues increase will be raised only as one of any other options that may prove viable.

TREASURER'S REPORT: Jon Morrow reported that the Association received $2,157 in voluntary legal contributions for the Sea Wall litigation, only $700 less than the total legal bill. He also reported that the Association continues to enjoy good financial health and he will be prepared to present a complete report to one and all at the Annual Meeting.

TAG SALE: The Tag and Bake Sale Committee recommends Saturday, August 26 for this year's tag sale, a date that they hope will facilitate the participation of HERCC members who are typically here during the summer only. Sandy Podesta again offered to host the event at her home at 282 Neck Road. Please note that, unlike in previous years, at this year's Sale donors will need to remove their own unsold items. The Tag and Bake Sale has proven to be a profitable way to repay HERCC expenses so everyone's participation is welcome. All members are invited to join the fun by calling either Kim Ruggiero (245-3566) or Sandy (245-6038.)

MEMBER NEWS: The Board expresses its condolences to the Hausman family at the loss of their mother, longtime member Gerri Hausman. On behalf of the Association, a contribution will be made in her name to the charity of choice.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.

Respectfully submitted,

Sandy Podesta, Secretary
