HERCC arial view 1950

"Mr. Adley of Adley's Trucking bought what is now Morrow's House and asked to build a pier out from his sea wall. He would pay for everything, and anyone in the Association could use it for their walks. Diving was permitted at the end of the pier.

"We were introduced to mussels, which were then used only for bait and now are a delicacy in every restaurant! We also learned that periwinkles could be boiled and used in a chowder.

"Mr. Adley was very optimistic - '... his pier was built to last forever'.

"We watched from Matthies' back porch as each storm or hurricane took down more of the pier."
