Mary Blank

1913 - 2007

Dear one and all,

am sorry to tell you that our dear friend Mary Blank died early on the morning of May 17, 2007.

Her daughter Sarah contacted us and shared her sorrow at the loss of "my role model and the love of my life," a sentiment with which I know we all sympathize.  Mary was an enormous part of our lives and an incredible, positive influence on the quality, comfort and enjoyment of our daily routines in our community.  Not only will she be missed, she is irreplaceable.

Message from the Board

Wednesday, June 6, 2007

Dear Friends,

It is with profound sadness that I report to you a devastating loss to our HERCC family. Our friend, champion and esteemed Association President Mary Blank passed away on May 17 at her daughter Sarah's home. Sarah shared with us her sorrow at the loss of "my role model and the love of my life," a sentiment with which I know we all sympathize.

It is a testament to Mary's spirit that we are all shocked by her death, despite the fact that she was a sprite 94 years of age. At the Temple Beth Tikvah, her family held a memorial service for Mary, which was as full of love, respect and grace as Mary herself. She is buried at the synagogue's cemetery in Clinton.

Mary Blank was a HERCC resident for decades along with her husband Sam and their five children. She presided over the Association throughout three separate terms as President, introducing countless new ideas and spearheading numerous important improvements and initiatives. Those of us fortunate enough to work with her witnessed first-hand the fearlessness with which Mary tackled difficult, often contentious issues and the grace with which she resolved them to the satisfaction of many. Mary was an enormous part of our lives and an incredible, positive influence on the quality, comfort and enjoyment of our daily routines. Mary Blank was integral to our community. Not only will she be missed, she is irreplaceable.

As you know, we were working on a tribute for Mary that we had hoped to present while she was alive. It's both heartbreaking and frustrating that we got so close; Mary deserved to know that her memory would live on after her; she would have been so touched and thrilled to know that we all held her in such high regard. We will, of course, continue with our plans to have a memorial ready to dedicate at the Annual Meeting this summer.
