OPENING REMARKS
The 64th Annual Meeting of HERCC was called to order by the
Board of Management, with Secretary Sandy Podesta and Treasurer
Rita Amaio welcoming the membership on behalf of the Board, in
the absence of a president.
The first order of business was to accept the Minutes of the 2006 Annual Meeting, which were unanimously approved.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
In Memoriam: The Board officially informed the membership
of the devastating loss of our revered President, Mary Blank,
who died unexpectedly this past May 17. The members observed
a moment of silence in Mary's honor. Secretary Sandy Podesta
introduced a memorial that is being prepared to commemorate Mary's
contributions to the Association; an engraved sundial will be
completed this summer and installed on the Beach.
Member News: The Board expressed its condolences to the Mattheis family on the death of member Bill Mattheis. Wishes for a speedy recovery were sent to Alan Smith. The Langilles were congratulated on a new addition to their family: new baby Margaux.
REPORTS
Treasurer's Report: Rita Amaio reported on the Association's
fiscal health, which once again is robust. Attached to these
minutes are her reports; astute readers will notice a negative
net income -- this is because some of Annual Dues are yet to be
received. Rita thanked those members who paid in a timely fashion
and also noted a $3500 expense for road sealing to maintain our
roads. Rita reported that because most Associations like HERCC
obtain liability insurance for the members of the Board of Management
in the unlikely event that a lawsuit should emerge that could
negatively impact the Board members personally and also to protect
the assets of the Association, she is investigating this coverage.
Secretary's Report: Sandy Podesta reported that the HERCC website
is up and running, thanks to Jon Morrow's efforts. Members are
urged to submit pictures to Jon for inclusion; send them to: allmorro@ix.netcom.com
Several members asked that names and addresses be removed from
the site (which Jon has since done.) Members provided updated
information for the Directory, which will be reprinted for next
year's meeting; they also provided e-mail addresses for receiving
minutes electronically, which will save on printing and postage.
(Anyone wishing to receive an updated copy of the Directory via
e-mail now should let me know; e-mail addresses are still sought
for those who did not provide them for receiving minutes via e-mail.

Signs: Ellen Cika has graciously taken on the task of updating our signs. She presented two new signs that will be installed shortly. Everyone expressed approval and appreciation for her efforts.
Roads: Jim O'Brien reported that the roads have been re-sealed and all is well. Bill Bussmann will install the road markers for the winter months.
Boat Rack: Ken Finkle reported that beachgoers are still leaving the Shed doors open and unlatched, which results in warped doors with far less life -- a situation that will ultimately require new doors sooner, costing the Association money it should not have to spend. Members are reminded to latch the shed doors when using the Shed, whenever they are seen open, and to remind others to do the same.
Parade and Picnic: Amy Stefanowski and Jennifer Eisele provided details and urged everyone to attend and participate in these wonderful events.
Sandbox: Sandy Podesta reported that, in response to Member suggestions, Ellen Cika volunteered to look into adding to our sandbox more sand and new plantings such as beach grass. Ellen reported that she had found several workable plants; the Members voted to authorize Ellen to proceed with procuring productive plantings pronto.
Swim Float: Sandy reported that Mike Eisele received all approvals necessary for the Swim Float following a vote at last year's Annual Meeting to proceed. A few Members expressed concerns, which were soundly discussed and addressed. It was agreed that a letter would be distributed to all members and renters calling attention to strict rules for using the float safely. Volunteers were sought and found to help install the float.
NEW BUSINESS
Unruly Beach Behavior: Members noted that cell phone use
by teenagers has made our Beach a potential site for last minute
nighttime parties. Members are reminded that only Association
Members may use the beach at any time and that no one is allowed
on the beach after 11pm, as stated in our Rules and Regulations.
Members are urged to contact the police any time non-members
use the beach, particularly at night. A reminder of this will
be included in the Swim Float letter.
Ruly Beach Behavior: The Association expressed appreciation to our beach raker, Tim Geiser, who rakes the beach and helps keep it clean for all of us to enjoy!
Quest for Fire: A one-time request for permission to hold a bonfire on the Beach was accepted for the Annual Picnic this evening so that the children can make S'mores.
BOARD OF MANAGEMENT ELECTION
On behalf of the Board, the Secretary noted that this year
the seats of the Secretary and three Board Members are open for
election in addition to the position of President that also needs
to be filled. The Board recommended a slate of nominees including:
Bob Cika to serve as President; Sandy Podesta for re-election
as Secretary and Bill Bussmann for re-election as a Board Member;
as well as Stephanie Sgambati and Jonathan Flatow as additional
Board Members -- all for two-year terms. The floor was then opened
for additional nominations. As no other nominations were made,
the membership voted and those nominated were elected to office.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully submitted,
Sandy Podesta
