OPENING REMARKS
The 59th Annual Meeting of HERCC Members was called to order by
interim President Sandra Podesta. Sandy opened the meeting by
expressing thanks to Rita Amaio, who once again provided refreshments
for the gathering. She extended a warm welcome to everyone with
a special "New Member Hello" to Chuck Nguyen-Tan and
his son Nevin. Also, on behalf of the Association, she offered
good wishes to those who have had children or grandchildren since
last year's meeting, including: Jeanne and Darin Porter, Bill
Bussmann, Steve and Sandy Nikituk. Condolences were extended
to Maxine Sklover on the loss of her husband. Congratulations
were offered to Judy Merriam for the marriage of her son Jeff,
and to Mike Vitale and his new bride Bernadette, and to Tom Connor
on his forthcoming marriage to Peggy Howe. Best wishes were extended
to those members who will be leaving us, sadly, including past-President
Tom Hynes and Cathy Berlot as well as the family of Board Member
Mark Kasevich and Mary Larson.
PRESIDENT'S REPORT
The Interim President thanked Jon Morrow for artfully restoring
the HERCC website for all of us; it can be accessed via the following
addresses: hercc.org, hercc.com and hercc.net. She also thanked
Mark Kasevich for supervising restoration of the speed bumps and
then turned over the floor to Committee Heads for their reports:
Boat Rack Committee: Committee Head Kim Ruggiero reported that there are two openings on the boat rack and three spaces for which fees remain unpaid. The two open spaces were assigned to the Lago and Porter families, which leaves two members on the waiting list. A motion was made, seconded and passed to disallow a single family from having two slots on the boat rack unless there is no one on the waiting list. To see the current boat rack assignments, please visit the HERCC website at http://www.hercc.org. On a related note, Jon Morrow announced that he has a kayak for sale, if anyone is interested.
Audit Committee: As the Audit Committee is scheduled to meet every other year, the Committee will meet again next year and report its findings to the Association.
Jetty Committee: The Jetty Committee reported that it had repaired the eastern beach jetty that was in danger of deteriorating. Thanks were extended to Brian Burke and the team of volunteers he organized, including Jim O'Brien, Ken Finkle, Bart Ruggiero and Bill Bussmann. The Committee continues to work diligently to maintain the integrity of our jetties.
TREASURER'S REPORT
Treasurer Jon Morrow reported that the Association is, once again,
in fine fiscal shape. He distributed relevant financial statements,
copies of which are attached.
AFTERNOON FESTIVITIES
The Interim President directed everyone's attention to the schedule
for the afternoon parade, games and picnic and thanked those who
volunteered to make the day a special one including John Teich
for continuing to serve as the parade's Grand Marshall.
OTHER BUSINESS
A member raised the issue of removal of the fence at the end of
the Association right-of-way bordering the Sklover property.
After discussion, no action was taken by the membership. Another
member raised the issue of neighborhood safety and a discussion
ensued, also with no action taken.
BOARD OF MANAGEMENT ELECTION
Members nominated, elected and welcomed Mary Blank as their new
President to serve the remaining year of former President Tom
Hynes' two-year term. Jon Morrow was nominated, re-elected and
will continue serving another two-year term as Treasurer. (Sandy
Podesta will continue to serve the remaining year of her term
as Secretary.) Kim Ruggiero was nominated, re-elected and will
continue to serve another two-year term on the Board. Two other
Board seats becoming vacant were filled by Judy Merriam and Tom
Connor (senior,) who will also serve two-year terms.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully submitted,
Sandy Podesta, Secretary
