OPENING REMARKS

The 57th Annual Meeting of HERCC Members was called to order by President Brian Burke. Brian opened the meeting with a remembrance of those members and their families who have passed away during the year including Elwood (Burt) Burton, Melinda (Jerry) Hausman, William Haller and Paul Mattheis. A moment of silence was observed.

Brian welcomed Barbara and Richard Laudano, who bought the Houlihan house on Highland Terrace, and congratulated Jim O'Brien on the birth of his grandson.

Surprising the members, the President laid out his meticulously drawn plans for an invasion of Buffalo Bay, which involves mobilizing all HERCC capabilities for a quick but effective strike to claim that prime piece of real estate. The President theorized that once this piece and Hartford Beach had been taken, Circle Beach would surrender without a fight and HERCC's holdings and power would be greatly expanded. (Asked later why he had not consulted the Board on these plans, the President replied, "Certain activities do not lend themselves to committee work. Conquest is one of those activities.")

Returning to the business at hand, Brian thanked all those who volunteered their time and effort on behalf of the Association during the year. He suggested that members prepare for a dues increase next year as one of the ways to accumulate funds for a jetty replacement if such is needed. The other method is a special assessment. The Board will prepare a report to the members on this important subject.

TREASURER'S REPORT

Treasurer Jon Morrow reported that the Association is, once again, in excellent financial shape, due in part to another mild winter. However, he noted that the roads, which represent one of our two tangible assets (the other being the beach lot,) are beginning to chip at the property edges and advised members to keep an eye on this

problem so it can be addressed early. He also reported that, despite the fact that annual dues for the year 2000 were payable June 1, seven people remain in arrears. The Treasurer's report, which is attached, was unanimously approved.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

1. Audit Committee -- Rita Amaio reported that she, Steve Nikituk and Brian Burke conducted an audit of the financial records, both past and present, and found all to be satisfactory. Their complete report will follow.

2. Website Committee -- In response to numerous requests from HERCC members, Jon Morrow and his son, along with computer expert Lynne Bundesen, volunteered to explore the possibility of creating a HERCC website. Enthusiasm among the Members was palpable.

3. Boat Rack Committee --The boat rack is currently full with three openings having been filled this year. Kim Ruggiero maintains the waiting list; slots are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Slip assignments will appear on the bulletin board when and if it is rehung.

4. Jetty Committee -- The committee reports that preliminary examination of the wooden jetty's condition revealed early signs of rotting in some places, although thankfully, the majority of the jetty is solid. The committee believes that this affords us the opportunity to repair the damage now more economically than if we were to wait until the condition worsens. A professional jetty builder is being called upon to confirm this.

5. Tag and Bake Sale Committee -- The committee has selected Saturday, August 26 for this year's tag sale, which will be on Sandy Podesta's yard at 282 Neck Road. Please note that, unlike in previous years, at this year's Sale donors will need to remove their own unsold items. The Tag and Bake Sale has proven to be a profitable way to repay HERCC expenses so everyone's participation is welcome. All members are invited to join the fun by calling either Kim Ruggiero (245-3566) or Sandy (245-6038.) See additional information attached.

AFTERNOON FESTIVITIES: The President directed everyone's attention to the schedule for the afternoon parade, games and picnic and thanked those who volunteered to make the day a special one.

BEACH AREA ISSUES: The Annual Beach Cleanup was poorly attended this year. The President asked that members watch the minutes for next year's announcement and plan to participate. Jim O'Brien offered to trim the bushes and tree on the beach lot next to the Lynches' property line. He will work closely with the Lynches to assure that the amount trimmed is satisfactory to everyone. Mary Blank reminded members that dogs are permitted on the beach only if they are on a leash and that any refuse they produce must be immediately picked up by the dog's owner. Many members agreed that dogs may swim in the water as long as they are walked on a leash to and from the water's edge.

BOARD OF MANAGEMENT ELECTION: A vote was held and the following residents were unanimously elected to the Board: Jon Morrow as Treasurer; Kim Ruggiero, Tom Hynes, and Mark Kasevich as Board Members. All will serve terms of two years.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.

Respectfully submitted,

Sandy Podesta, Secretary
