Minutes of the Board of Management Meeting
June 16, 2004

The HERCC Board of Management met at the home of President Mary Blank.

Present were: President Mary Blank, Treasurer Jon Morrow and Board Members Tom Connor, Bob Cika, Judy Merriam, Deb Paduda, and Paul Teich. Kim Ruggiero was absent as was Secretary Sandy Podesta who gratefully thanks Judy Merriam for taking the minutes for her.

President Mary Blank welcomed the Board and the Board thanked Mary for hosting the gathering once again with such generous hospitality. The following topics were then discussed:

Minutes: The minutes of the previous meeting were accepted.

Condolences: On behalf of the Association, the Board expressed condolences to the family of longtime Member Bill Delahunty who recently passed away. HERCC will make a donation in his memory.

Memorial: Bob Cika reported that the Grace Cross Memorial Bench has been installed on the Association Right of Way adjacent to Jon Morrow's property. A plaque honoring Steve and Grace Cross and the original founders of HERCC will be added to the bench and will be dedicated following the Annual Meeting so that all Association members may attend.

Committee Reports:

Treasurer's Report: Jon Morrow reported that he has sent out bills for the annual dues payment, picnic costs, boats rack and beach storage shed. He will make a complete report of the Association's financial state at the Annual Meeting on July 17.

Maintenance: The Board thanked Paul Teich for changing the street signs, which were produced by the town at no cost to us. Jim O'Brien, Paul Teich, and Bob Cika have kindly volunteered to wash and paint the fences at our street corners (one new fence will be purchased.) Paul Teich has arranged for Sullivan Paving to repair the speed bumps and make them lower, wider, and deeper to reduce the chances that they will break up in the future. We will assume responsibility for painting the speed bumps after the paving is completed. Any members who wish to discuss with Sullivan the possibility of paving their driveway at the same time -- at their own expense -- may call Roger Sullivan at (860) 767-2357.

Membership Issues: The Board discussed the need for leadership and participation among the "younger generation" and that a viable Board must include people from different age groups. Because a small group of people continue to serve and volunteer, there is a preponderance of "older" representation. As the older volunteers cannot continue to assume full responsibility for all physical labor, the Board also discussed, in the absence of younger and energetic participation, hiring a handyperson whom we would pay to undertake small and larger jobs for the Association. Since the former alternative is more fun and cost effective than the latter, the Board would welcome suggestions and ideas on how to involve more young or new members.

Boat Rack: Judy Merriam reported that spaces for more boats will be investigated on the current boat rack and the waiting list of members will be contacted.

Annual Meeting and Summer Parade and Picnic: Members are reminded that our momentous summer event is fast approaching! Mark your calendars for Saturday July 17. Among other vital issues to be addressed, this Meeting will host our annual Board of Management elections.

Election of the Board: This year, the Treasurer and three Board Members are up for election or re-election. The By-Laws require the Board of Directors to present a slate of nominees at the Annual Meeting. Therefore, the Board discussed potential nominees and will present the following slate of nominees: Jon Morrow and Rita Amaio for Treasurer, Bill Bussman, Ken Finkle and Amy Stefanowski for Board Members. If you are interested in running for these seats or wish to nominate someone, please contact the Secretary if you haven't already done so.

Hospitality: Deb Paduda reported that Jennifer Eisele would once again spearhead the fabulous children's activities at the Annual Picnic. The costs and style of the picnic (bring a dish to feed 12) will remain the same this year. Please see attached flyer for complete details and be sure not to miss this exciting event!

The meeting adjourned at 8:15.

Respectfully submitted,

Sandy Podesta
