The Board of Management held a meeting at 7:00pm at the home of President Bob Cika on Tuesday, November 14, 2008. Those attending were: Rita Amaio, Bill Bussmann, Bob Cika, Jennifer Eisele, Sandy Podesta, Stephanie Sgambati and Amy Stefanowski. Jonathan Flatow and Jim O'Brien were absent and sorely missed.
President Bob Cika called the meeting to order at 7:00pm. The Board discussed the following topics:
Treasurer's Report
Treasurer Rita Amaio presented the Association's Fiscal Year
Profit and Loss report through April 30, 2009, copy attached.
Some of the income and expense line items are explained in the
report; please note as well: Snow removal expense for this past
winter was $1,170 higher than the same period last year ($1,955
vs. $785.) Except for the May - July period, which is when most
of the Association's income is received (Annual Dues, Storage,
Boat Rack and Picnic Sales) expenses will almost always exceed
income.
Our cash available is as follows: Wachovia checking account:
$2,700 (rounded) and our Fidelity Money Market Account (Fidelity
Cash Reserve) net asset value is currently $50,679.96.
The downturn in the economy had affected our dividend for the
last quarter but the Association is in sound financial condition
overall. No major expenses are anticipated in the near term.
Dues invoices are expected to go out in the middle of May 2009.
Secretary's Report
Sandy will be ready with an updated Member Directory for the
Annual Meeting this summer. With the addition of a new chapter
in our illustrious history by HERCC historian Ellen Cika, the
directory will be informative, enjoyable to read and useful!
It will include a schematic of the Boat Rack assignments so that
everyone knows which spaces belong to which members along with
a photomontage. (Photos still welcome: sp@eBusinessWriting.com)
Beach Clean-Up Day
Mark your calendarscancel all previous engagements! Saturday,
May 23 is HERCC Beach Clean-up Day the day all beach
users have been anticipating! With Music, Mimosas and More, we
will once again launch this incomparable event at 9:00am. If
you are a regular, you already know there is no place you'd rather
be. If you've never come, don't be shywe will welcome you and
put you to the relaxing, non-invasive, cooperativeoften contemplative
work of your choice. Cleaning, pruning, raking implements are
welcome but not required. Also, we will remove all boats that
are clearly unused, unusable or un-well, no longer on the rack
itself (so if you come for no other reason than to save your boat,
come!) If you use the beach, come help spruce it up! (Rain date:
Sunday May 24.)
Neighborhood Enhancement
Fences and Speed Bumps: Bob removed the damaged fence at the
corner of Soundview Avenue and Neck Road; Jim O'Brien's son will
repair the fence and then Caroline Eisele and her neighborhood
friends will paint that and all of the fences by Memorial Day.
Bob will get an estimate on painting the speed bumps from the
company that put them in. Bob will also get fence caps, paint
and install them to enhance further the stately appearance of
our fences.
Beach Enhancement
Beach: Jim O'Brien's son will manage the lawn care for the beach
lot; he will also procure sand for the sandbox. Bob will put
in dirt and salt-resistant beach grass to help hold in the sand.
Swim Float: Our Swim Float Master Jon Flatow reported that he will repair the ladder apparatus to make sure it stays on and secure the float to the shore better. As the float is unsightly on the beach during the winter, we will try to position it better this year so it is more hidden. Disassembly is prohibitively burdensome. Storing it behind the boat rack kills the grass. At the summer meeting, we'll get volunteers to commit to help with its removal and storage.
Trash Pick-up: Rita researched several companies and selected Bartlett, who offered the lowest price with the least offensive trash receptacle.
Boat Rack: Bill Bussmann reported that, with the assignment of the last open space, the rack is now full. He will be adding names to all the spots so boat owners know exactly in which spot their boat belongs. He will continue to monitor openings and reassignments.
Other Business
Dog Owners: We regret to report that there are still some errant
relievers/non-picker-uppers Therefore, we remind all members to
watch their dogs. Now that we will soon be enjoying the sand
and grass areas by the beach, it's ever so important to clean
up dog mess.
Friends of HERCC: Thanks to some technologically savvy neighborhood teens, HERCC is now on Facebook! Check it out by entering "HERCC" in the search box.
Falkner's Light: has its own website: http://lighthouse.cc/FLB/, which stands for Faulkner Light Brigade. Board member of both HERCC and FLB, Bill Bussmann will work with our esteemed webmaster Jon Morrow to link the two sites so our members can discover more about the island we see every day. What's more, if people want to donate to save the lighthouse, they will find the information on the FLB website.
With no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:32 p.m.
Respectfully submitted by,
Sandy Podesta
